PHILOSOPHY & BIOGRAPHY
I was born in 1986 and grew up in Cologne and the Eifel. I had my first contact working with cameras during my civilian service at the drug rehabilitation center in Cologne. There I accompanied the drug addicts of this social facility with my camera. It quickly dawned on me that I was particularly interested in people and social issues. I am fascinated by the proximity to a person or an action in every moment being – and to be able to capture this situation with the camera without letting go.
In autumn 2008, I began a bachelor‘s and master’s degree with a focus on »Cinematography« in Berlin, Zurich and Hamburg. In October 2016, I successfully completed the master’s program “Camera” at the renowned Hamburg Media School with my final year project which was the fiction film WE TAKE YOU. The film premiered at the 38th Max Ophüls Award film festival and in late 2017, also competed in the 25th CAMERIMAGE film festival, the world’s largest film festival for cinematographers. The short film CHAY, for which I was responsible for the camera work, was
When I work with a director, my view through the camera is like the third eye. As a camerman, I am required to constantantly critical examin my work critically, questioning it again and again and trying new ways and techniques. As a freelance director of photography, I work on documentary, fictional, advertising and communication films.
The focus of my camera work is primarily films with social and society topics, sustainability and also environmental protection. For this purpose, in early 2020 with Vanouch Balian, I founded the film production company PINEROOT. The company specializes in the creation of moving content for companies and organizations in the areas of sustainability, environmental protection and ecological management.
I see my work as a calling that I work at with passion, curiosity and drive. I’m diligent in keeping up my own high standards again and again, in every film project – the next one could be yours!
